Akash Tablet 2 to get the Ice Cream Sandwitch Flavour

India’s very own Aakash 2 tablet, which is scheduled to go on sale in a couple of weeks time from now will be upgraded to Google Android’s latest OS, Android 4.0/ ie  Ice Cream Sandwich, as announced by Datawind, the manufacturer of the tablet. The tablet, however will primarily be installed with Android version 2.3 (Gingerbread), but will be upgraded later to ICS in a couple of weeks.

The Aakash 2 Tablet will have 2GB flash storage, an 800Mhz processor and a 256 MB RAM, where as both of the above mentioned system requirements are low. but can put forward by Google for their Ice Cream Sandwich android os to work fine. Google, themselves have not upgraded their developer phone Nexus One which has a 1GHz processor and a 512 MB RAM.The Aakash 2 tablet is hitting the Indian market in two to three weeks and it’ll take another two months until users can experience Ice Cream Sandwich on their units. It’s yet unknown how the update will be distributed – over-the-air or as a PC download, but Singh Tuli is certainly said that it’s coming soon. So, the software developers  at Datawind will probably need to compile and unveil  a special, lightweight Android 4.0 ice cream sandwitch distribution that would run decently on the Aakash 2. but if they manage to actually install it on the low-end tablet, it’s hard to imagine that it would run well. We’ll be keeping an eye on this one.
